I am very proud to offer these Double C Saddles for sale at below retail prices. These saddles are completly hand crafted and the tooling is awsome. Rawide covered trees -
quarter horse bars, very thick fleece bottom. Photos of the details I mention below can be seen on the NEW SADDLES page by clicking on that button to the left. All saddle trees carry a 5 year warranty. These saddles can also be ordered custom tooled virtually any way you would like, semi to full quarter horse bars.
Features I have noticed:
I train horses and give lessons, and have for a long time. I have spent literally years studying different saddles, makes and brands. Many of the old tried and true "big" name saddleries have sadly
sold out quality for quantity, or just plain sold the name to production manufacturers.
Tree: The trees are made by Double CC Saddlery. Rawhide covered hardwood trees, no plastic. 5 year warranty.
Leather: very nice leather, has feel and life to it. None of that cardboard feeling. Good quality leather is easier to break in and will last MUCH longer than poor quality leather. Saddle skirts are
properly pre-shaped to avoid that "Flying Nun" look so many saddles get. Good quality leather also retains this shape better. If your saddle comes with flat skirts it is HIGHLY unlikely they are going to curve
around your horse in the future.
Tooling: Beautiful tooled leather. Quality hand tooling of leather is an artform. I have tried to include close up detail photos of each saddle on the NEW SADDLES page so you can see what I am talking aobut. You can see the difference easily. Miss the beautiful quality tooling of the OLD Herfords? The OLD Billy Cooks? The OLD Circle Y's? Miss it no more.
Fleece: So it has fleece, who cares? Turn your saddle over (or other new brand name saddles) and look at the fleece. FEEL the fleece. No, don't just pet it, dig your fingers deep into it and work
through it. The deeper, thicker the fleece the better quality the saddle is. Check this out at your local tack shop. Look at some low end saddles and then some high end. Even within the same brand. Those high end
saddles (should) have a thicker fleece than the economy models. Puny fleece packs easily and does not conform to your horse. Thick fleece not only provides some minor custom fitting for your horse but also provides
airspace to assist with heat dissepation.
Seat Shape: Over the years I have found that a long overlooked feature of most saddles is seat WIDTH. Everyone worries about Length (size in inches). No one considers width, which is called the
"twist" of the seat. I can guarantee that if your saddle is too wide you will have more trouble staying with your horse. Do your hips bother you after long rides? Too wide. A disturbing trend I have noticed on
almost ALL maker saddles is the 12, 13 snd 14" seats (for the little folks) look incredibly wide. When a kid has legs 12" long he doesn't need a seat 6 inches wide! We are putting our little ones in (mostly) barrel
racing saddles because they have high backs (cantle) hoping it will help them stay on. One of the most popular brands has a high back, high front....and really wide seat. Well the little tykes are going to have
trouble gripping the saddle because their legs are too far apart. These small sized Double C's have the tree is designed to fit a real horse, but the twist of the seat (the width where the rider sits) is sized for a
young riders seat. The skirts are also shortened proportionally. The rest of the saddle is sized for a full sized horse.
I have included a photo of a youth in a youth roper. Rider is 9 years old on a Foundation bred (stocky) AQHA stallion, Hancock Sundance, so you can see what I mean about proportion.
Detailed photos of this saddle can be seen on the NEW SADDLE page. I don't have any in stock but can order them easily.
